Tokigasane, Katayamazu Onsen, Kaga, is an inn nestled on the beautiful shore of Shibayamagata Lake, offering beauty-enhancing hot springs rich in salt and highly moisturizing, as well as seasonal ingredients from Hokuriku. We interviewed Mr. Fukuda, the manager, about why NAIA was adopted as an amenity for their special guest rooms and the reactions it received.
■"Saline Hot Spring" Gushing from the Lakebed, Spun by 140 Years of History

That's right. While surrounding areas like Yamanaka and Yamashiro have historic hot spring resorts, the charm of Katayamazu Onsen lies in its highly concentrated saline spring water that gushes from the bottom of Shibayamagata Lake.
Although the existence of the hot springs was known since the Edo period, the technology to draw it up from the lakebed was not available then, and it wasn't until about 140 years ago that it was finally opened. Our inn has a hot spring distribution center directly in front, making it one of the closest inns to the source in this area.
Thanks to its high temperature of 72°C and rich salt content, the heat retention after bathing and the long-lasting moisturizing effect on the skin are outstanding. I myself have been in charge of hot spring resorts across the prefecture, but the power of Katayamazu's hot spring water is exceptional.
The high salt content makes maintenance of pipes and motors very challenging every year (laughs), but we continue to preserve this hot spring for our repeat guests who return saying, "The hot water is completely different." Every time I bathe, I'm genuinely surprised at how long my body stays warm.

■"Ishikawa-specific" hospitality befitting special rooms
— Please tell us what led to the introduction of NAIA.
Our inn has nine high-class guest rooms with private open-air baths, and many guests come to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays and wedding anniversaries. We were looking for special amenities to welcome these important guests.
While we have always thoroughly used Hokuriku ingredients in our cuisine, we had been using standard amenities. Since guests specifically travel from afar to visit this region, we wanted to incorporate as many Ishikawa Prefecture products as possible.
It was then that we came across NAIA, which is based in Noto, and the opinion "This is really great!" was unanimous within the company, leading us to decide on its introduction.
We had our female staff try it out beforehand, and they were full of praise, especially those in charge of procurement, saying, "The feel is completely different." Honestly, the staff members who were particular about cosmetics were the most surprised.

Since the earthquake, Katayamazu Onsen as a whole has had a strong desire to "support Noto." At our inn, we quietly but diligently continue efforts such as always including Noto ingredients in our cuisine, without making a big fuss about it.
All the neighboring inns get along well, so we want to exchange information and work together to revitalize this region.
Just like with NAIA's amenities, we want to continue to create opportunities for our guests to experience the wonderful materials and stories of Noto during their stay at our inn.
